Settings of the Latin Requiem often exert a strong pull on us not because they bring sadness, but because of the music’s cathartic power to lead us to hope and reassurance in an often frightening world. For the opening concert of the Bucks County Choral Society's 44th season, we have paired two requiems, one very old and familiar (the beloved Mozart Requiem) and one very new, related directly to a recent tragedy (A Child's Requiem by Steven Sametz, commissioned by the parents of Sandy Hook Elementary School). The movements of the two requiems will be performed in alternation with each other, heightening the impact of these two powerful statements from very different eras. With the Riverside Symphonia, Princeton Girlchoir, and soloists Clara Rottsolk, soprano, Emily Drummond, alto, David Vanderwal, tenor, and Robby Eisentrout, bass.
